30 or 40 cm cupboards: why nominal width is not enough
Nominal width identifies a cabinet family, not the clear space available. Cabinets with the same nominal size can use different panels, hinges and construction. Record nominal size separately from internal measurements.
For illustration only, a 400 mm outer box with two 18 mm walls would leave 364 mm between them. This is not a measurement of your cabinet and omits fittings, deformation and tolerances.
Product width is not automatically minimum installation width. Supports, movement and clearances may matter; systems fixed to both sides can also impose a maximum. Label each number as nominal size, free interior, opening, external product size or installation requirement. Check drawing letters before transferring dimensions.
